Congratulations to Jose Bautista who moments ago became the first player in Toronto Blue Jays history to hit 50 Home Runs in a season. Allow me to celebrate this joyous occasion by adding some paranoia to the mix.

Last season, Bautista hit 13 Home Runs in a limited role (336 at bats). Given the opportunity to be a full time player this season his numbers have skyrocketed. He just needed a chance to play everyday. Well, his improvement was so vast that people started talking about Performance Enhancing Drugs.

Last season, his teammates Adam Lind and Aaron Hill both had career years. Outstanding numbers all around. This of course was called a case of the players living up to their potential.

So we have a case of one excellent season being linked to PEDs, but when the same thing happened the previous year, no questions were being asked? Both Lind and Hill's numbers have fallen off dramatically this season. Why the sudden drop from last year? They'll tell you it had to do with injuries, or a slow start. Was it possible that they were using PEDs last season? No, of course not.

Only Latin players cheat...

Hieroglyphics - Menace II Society (update)

Original Post: Link

Had an opportunity to ask Domino about the track. Here's what he had to say.

...I do remember that track and believe I have a cassette copy somewhere. I will look around for it and if Cas is cool, I will post it at some point.

The story behind that track is, Jive was doing the soundtrack to Menace to Society and had Casual and Souls submit songs for it. The Souls submitted “Our Secret” a song we has left over from the 93 til sessions. Casual went in and did a new song on a beat by Extra Prolific. It was recorded in NY around the same time (late 92’) we were mixing Fear Itself and 93 Til.

The Main thing I remember is the chorus with Ex Pro saying ”I’m a menace and its like that.” and Casual following with “I’m Menace, and ain’t nobody gona strike back”. The beat was kinda dark and uptempo but thats about all I can recall…..and one Cas line “basically, the way I live is trifelin’.

We submitted them and The Hughes Brothers rejected them both saying they were not West Coast sounding enough. Based on what ended up on that soundtrack, it probably wasn’t a good fit anyways.

I will look for that tape and hopefully I can share it with everyone.

Shout out to Domino for always being cool with fans. The track may see the light of day.

Good call by The Hughes Brothers not accepting the track submitted by Souls of Mischief. Great track, but maybe not the right tone.

Doesn't really seem to fit in with tracks like this:

Tales of the Wizard of Oz (1961)

A Dandy Lion.

The show was kinda trippy. I wonder if the creators were smoking some good shit at the time. Every Saturday morning at 6am I would plant myself in the front of the TV and laugh loudly at this.

Australian Crime Dramas

I've seen some comparisons to The Godfather, Goodfellas, and works by the Coen Brothers. I wouldn't go that far, but both of these films are solid.(Animal Kingdom being the better of the two)

The Square (Nash Edgerton, 2008) | Trailer

Animal Kingdom (David Michod, 2010) | Trailer

Some good films down under.

Imani (The Pharcyde) Interview

Pardon me, Uncle Imani ("I'm 40 years old; I'm an uncle; I be talkin' shit...")

He's pretty candid in the interview and covers the origins of the group, up to their reunion at Rock The Bells.
